Why Do We Dream?
When it comes to dreaming there are many types of dreaming. Dreaming by
definition is a series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring
involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. When you dream you are
in R.E.M.( Rapid Eye Movement) mode or what is also called paradoxical sleep.
When you are in R.E.M. mode you dream several times and when you wake up
from R.E.M. the last dream you had is the one you remember. Studies have shown
that when people were immediately awaken from R.E.M. mode they remembered
every detail of their dream and could recite it, compared to when they were
awaken after R.E.M. sleep. When we are awake our brains naturally trigger the
ANS(Auto Nomic System) response which is fight or flight, but when we dream
our trigger and response is stronger and in some cases is so strong that you can
unconsciously move your body. For example the other night I had a dream that a
creature with long scary legs was crawling over me, and I ( while still dreaming)
screamed, jumped off my bed and ran into the other room trying to jump out
the window. My mom came in and asked me what was going on and I screamed
there’s scary legs on my bed and I told her not to turn on the lights and when she
did I screamed and covered my eyes. After a few moments I went to my bed and
passed out. My dream was so vivid and my fight or flight responses were so strong
that I physically reacted to my nightmare without actually knowing it.

Summary: This article is based on the affects that can happen to your mind by having gluten. Gluten is the common protein found in wheat, barely oats, spelt, kamut, and rye. Gluten is a sticky, storage protein that when combined with water becomes sort of gooey. And can also lead up to digestive and immune system disorders from the gluten binding up to the small intestinal. Gluten is a major contributing factor with many of today's health problems. Like the disease, Celiac diesease. Which in many cases has many different symptoms. For ex: mind, stomach pains, and constipation/diarrhea,and even "brain fogs" to extreme depression, paranoia and even hallucinations in extreme cases occuring when they have been exposed to gluten(even in extremely small quantities). The Gluten has Gliadin in it which is axcually the main casue for all the negative affects that happen to your body which is why many Dr's intend you on not eating gluten and saving your body from many bad disease, and staying healthy.
Critique: This article was very informing and interesting. It gave very detailed and specific information to not eating gluten and going gluten free.

Amazon tribes
Amazon Tribe
The Amazon tribe has many Indians that live in villages by the rivers and deep in the forest, and grow vegetables, fruits, hunt and fish. They have many problems involving around there land: outsiders either wanting their land, or something underneath it. The main source the outsiders look for is oil, gas, illegal logging and the rapid spread of ranching and farming. When land to these Indians is there life. Right now there are only approximately only 100 tribes left and many people are trying to help them live from keeping illegal immigrants and viruses out of there mist. And they were just found after a long time of missing from drug traffickers that destroyed the guard post in western Brazil near the Peruvian border.
Indians instead of wearing normal clothing most Indians wear western clothes, and use pots, pans, and utensils for everyday life. Some groups also make handicrafts to sell to the tourists that pass through, while others make trips to the city to bring foods and wares to market. Most groups don’t hunt for their meat unless they can’t travel and get there food from travelers. Usually a family has two gardens: one with plants with fruit and the other with vegetables. Today most tribes don’t go by traditional hunting instead they go willingly trading. Only some tribes still go off their tradition. Many of the Indians combined tribes and form a team in a way to protect their cultures and there forest crops. These tribes have been facing long battles and had not been seen for a long amount of time until about two years ago when the news/ even some travelers had caught glimpse of Indians on their plane ride. Many outsiders have been starting fights and trying to intrude on their lands .Invasions has raised since the mid 1990’s. Other than wars many of the Amazon tribes have caught many diseases like measles, tuberculosis, and the flu, which has downsized there population by many.
Amazon tribes do have school in the east if they wish to go, if not they don’t. Most don’t have school education and many of our citizens want to help them become more aware of what diseases you can get, and how you can prevent them.

Pouring Faucets
Fish-catching trick may be spreading among dolphins
PERTH, Australia (Reuters) - Dolphins in one western Australian population have been observed holding a large conch shell in their beaks and using it to shake a fish into their mouths -- and the behavior may be spreading.
Researchers from Murdoch University in Perth were not quite sure what they were seeing when they first photographed the activity, in 2007, in which dolphins would shake conch shells at the surface of the ocean.
"It's a fleeting glimpse -- you look at it and think, that's kind of weird," said Simon Allen, a researcher at the university's Cetacean Research Unit.
"Maybe they're playing, maybe they're socializing, maybe males are presenting a gift to a female or something like that, maybe the animals are actually eating the animal inside."
But researchers were more intrigued when they studied the photos and found the back of a fish hanging out of the shell, realizing that the shaking drained the water out of the shells and caused the fish that was sheltering inside to fall into the dolphins' mouths.
A search through records for dolphins in the eastern part of Shark Bay, a population that has been studied for nearly 30 years, found roughly half a dozen sightings of similar behavior over some two decades.
Then researchers saw it at least seven times during the four-month research period starting this May, Allen said.
"There's a possibility here -- and it's speculation at this stage -- that this sort of change from seeing it six or seven times in 21 years to seeing it six or seven times in three months gives us that tantalizing possibility that it might be spreading before our very eyes," he added.
"It's too early to say definitively yet, but we'll be watching very closely over the next couple of field seasons."
The Shark Bay dolphin population is already unusual for having developed two foraging techniques, one of which involves the dolphin briefly beaching itself to grab fish after driving them up onto the shore.
The other is "sponging" -- in which the dolphins break off a conical bit of sponge and fit it over their heads like a cap, shielding them as they forage for food on the sea floor.
But both of these spread "vertically," mainly through the female dolphin population, from mother to daughter. The intriguing thing about this new behavior with the conch shells is that it might be spreading "horizontally," Allen said.
"If it spreads horizontally, then we would expect to see it more often and we'd expect to see it between 'friends'," he added, noting that dolphins are known for having preferences in terms of companions and whom they spend time with.
"Most of the sightings from this year are in the same habitat where we first saw it in 2007, and a couple of the individuals this year are known to associate with the ones that we saw doing it a year or two ago."
The next step would be not only to observe the behavior again in another season but also to try and gather evidence Of deliberate actions on the part of the dolphins.
"If we could put some shells in a row or put them facing down or something like that and then come back the next day, if we don't actually see them do it but find evidence that they've turned the shell over or make it into an appealing refuge for a fish, then that implies significant forward planning on the dolphins' parts," Allen said.
"The nice idea is that there is this intriguing possibility that they might manipulate the object beforehand. Then that might change using the shell as just a convenient object into actual tool use," he added.

Now that dolphins have lerned where the fish are hiding, the fish are gonna need a new hiding spot.

Anxiety

Have you ever felt anxiety? Maybe you feel it when you are in trouble or scared. You tend to feel it in your torso and that’s where the term “My heart sank”. Anxiety is a normal reaction to a stressor. Some simple stressors are frustration, conflict, pressure, change and self- imposed. The basic reaction to stressors is physical, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive.
If you have a physical reaction to anxiety, the heart rate raises, you sometimes become weak, and you tend to get headaches and stomachaches. The emotional reactions could be the feeling of dread; you may become tense and have trouble concentrating. The behavioral effects could be increased motor tension like biting your nails or tapping your feet. Finally the cognitive reactions might include thoughts of danger such as dying or getting injured.
Too much anxiety could cause Anxiety disorders or panic attacks. Panic attacks are very common and can be treated medically and naturally. If you do it naturally an example could be not to hold your breath or pretending like it’s not happening.

Be A Better Communicator (Week2)
Communication is a part of our lives on the daily basis. Misinterpreted or understood, it lies there; verbally, written, or nonverbal. To understand ones communication and messages to yourself, is similar to understanding the other and their meaning of which they’re trying to get across. The better one is at communicating and listening, the better one could be at understanding another.
We communicate to get our ideas and thoughts across for another to see it our way. Some people are better at communicating than ourselves and some feel that communication can only be written or spoken verbally. They’d be wrong; we do have nonverbal communication as well. Though, verbally and written could sometimes be the easiest to spot to interpret, it does not make it the only way or even the most sufficient way. The nonverbal communication in-between the lines and done at the same time are just as important and should be taken into communication that we use everyday.
“Nonverbal signals make up a huge portion of our interpersonal communications” Kendra Cherry, about.com. She feels that it could help us communicate even more effectively if we could just learn how to signal properly our own nonverbal communication as well as how to read the signals of others nonverbally. As well as making good eye contact and using your tone of voice to reinforce your message.
I agree with nonverbal communication being just as important as verbal communication to help us all better understand the message being sent and how to better send our message. If we could all become a better communicator we could learn to be a better interpreter and to better understand those around us. Psychology is all about understanding the mind and understanding others, so I think learning to better effectively communicate is better understanding yourself and others. So, becoming a better communicator is using psychology in everyday lives.
