This article was very interesting. There are three ways that scientist are learning to stop destroy the fear in a traumatic event. The first type is cognitive therapy. This type of therapy involves reactivating the dreaded memory. After the memory is reactivated, a short window is formed, so the memory can be altered and give a feeling of safety and calm instead. The window comes from an effect from our long term memory retrieval. The memory will not stay the same way it did when we experienced it, but it will instead be a "newer" version since we will alter it. Another type of treatment is a pill. This pill is to be taken before the memory starts. Once the memory activates again, there will be no fear response, and the traumatic part of the memory will dissolve over time. The last and third treatment mentioned were enzymes before the trauma begins. The enzymes break down a protein net around the memories, so it allows the fear induced memory to be erased of the fear by extinction therapy easily. Also, using this before any traumatic events would help forget the fear naturally if something does happen.
I believe this article was made very well. I thought the details and examples given were large parts of why this is such a great article. A well thought out description of the experiments and real life application really impressed me. Also, this could help many of our soldiers that dont deserve to relive terrible moments everyday of their lives. Also, this can altogether possibly stop any root of the problem in any traumatic situation in time. I believe these discoveries and theories could save many people with PTSD.
